Ailsa’s inspiration for a blog this week presents us with the theme of glass.
I’m a huge fan. Whether it’s stained glass in churches, simple glass candle holders, or the incredible glass art sculptures from the likes of Dale Chihuly, vacations routinely find me perusing glass galleries. Loved the feel of the ocean as captured by Hot Island Glass in Makawao, Maui.
I purchased my own jellyfish in glass from The Dapper Frog gallery in Pacific City, Oregon, but drooled over the Rick Satava pieces with their delicate (and beyond my budget) intricacy.
The images this week focus on Las Vegas – a ‘glass haven’ – displays behind glass, displays of glass, glass ceilings and features…
A glass ceiling at the Venetian accented by ‘floating’ umbrellas…
Glass ball display at the Aria resort…
The entire dragon behind glass was made from dark, milk and white chocolate. Lanterns were made of rolled fondant, and the pearls and small flowers from sugar… (By Jean Philippe Patisserie & Chocolate.)
On a smaller scale we have the chocolate fountain cascading through glass bowls in the Bellagio Hotel (also Jean Philippe)…
The floral display at the Bellagio Hotel is changed seasonally. This spring display in April featured a glass ball water feature.
Vegas is all about a ‘glass half full’ – or brimming over with this decadent chocolate shake at the BLT Burger restaurant in The Mirage Hotel.
This glittery display was found where else but in ‘Glitter Gulch’ – the casino area of Fremont Street aka Downtown Las Vegas.
And finally, what would a trip to Vegas be without seeing some of the incredible Chihuly art forms at the Bellagio Hotel. First a stunning sculpture in the casino area and last, but certainly not least, the famed glass flower ceiling in the reception area…
What a magnificent collection.
Thank you Mrs. Carmichael. I love Vegas – and not for the gambling!

great gallery! i love the last photo! 🙂
Thank you! That’s one of my mum’s favourites too. She has it enlarged on canvas in her bedroom. We did it in a metallic print and it glows.

Fantastic! I can see you are an addict…I love the floating umbrellas!
Definitely! Ailsa’s post now has me wondering about a trip to Tacoma one day. And of course the glass capital of the world – Venice is definitely on the bucket list!

Even though I live in LA I’ve only been to Vegas once, this might convince me to change that. ;o)
I hope so. There is so much to do there beyond gamble! (I spend about $15 total in the casinos LOL. Much prefer the ‘sights’.) Red Rock Canyon is stunning. And yes, it’s cheesy and trashy and glitzy, but that’s part of the appeal especially in small doses.
Fabulous photos, Suzan. That dragon could keep me going for the rest of my chocolate-eating life. 😀
I know – it was probably a really good thing it was behind glass LOL. That said, the M&M store was across the street and I did pretty well on the Raspberry Chocolate M&M’s (best combo ever!)
Absolutely delightful!
Thanks so much Naomi!
They are all lovely, but that first one has an amazing composition.

Thanks Anne, the Venetian made that one easy for me as all I had to do was look up LOL.
