Stampede week in Calgary is not just about pancake breakfasts, rodeo, beer tents, and junk food (although there’s plenty of that). Fundraising groups use the ‘power of the party’ to aid their campaigns.
Chickwagon is no exception. Tying into the avant-garde ‘Boot Scootin’ Boogie Ball’ at Desperados, their ‘pink, black & bling’ laden VIP Champagne Reception and Art Auction is a popular event among Stampede goers, and a showcase for local artisan talent. A silent and public auction combined with a raffle for elusive Garth Brooks tickets helps their mission: To sponsor the sport of chuckwagon racing, to provide women with the opportunity for professional and personal growth and to create a living legacy through community involvement.
It’s been a while since I’ve been an active part of the Stampede scene. Loved the non-smoking aspect. Some things never change – the slight hint of stale beer, sticky floors, super entertainment, and the western clad folk out to have a great time.
